Nicole D. Berge

Dr. Berge's research focuses on improving our understanding of how physical, chemical, and biological processes can be manipulated to promote sustainable waste treatment techniques that lead to carbon sequestration, energy generation, and/or value-added product production.

Juan Caicedo

Juan M. Caicedo

Dr. Caicedo's area of specialization is in Structural Engineering with emphasis in Structural Dynamics. His research interests include both numerical and experimental research in the areas of structural dynamics, model updating, structural health monitoring, earthquake engineering and structural control.

Calamak

Melih Calamak

Dr. Calamak has been working on embankment safety, uncertainty based seepage analysis, probabilistic slope stability analysis, risk and reliability assessment in hydraulic engineering and numerical simulation of water hammer and transient flow conditions in closed conduits.

M. Hanif Chaudhry

M. Hanif Chaudhry

Dr. Chaudhry's area of specialization is water resource engineering with emphasis on the mathematical and physical modeling of steady and unsteady flows in closed conduits and open-channel.

Dr. Chen

Yuche Chen

Dr. Chen’s area of specialization is transportation engineering with emphasis on sustainability implications of transportation systems. He develops data-driven and empirical models to investigate how to leverage emerging transportation technologies to make transportation systems economically viable and environmentally friendly.

Jospeh Flora

Joseph Flora

Dr. Flora’s main research interests are in molecular modeling for environmental reactions, computer modeling of water quality engineering processes, and processes for water quality engineering. 

Sarah Gassman

Sarah Gassman

Dr. Gassman specializes in geotechnical engineering. Her research interests are multidisciplinary in nature and currently include projects focused on non-destructive evaluation of foundations and bridge structures; the effect of soil aging on liquefaction potential; field performance of culvert pipe and behavior of embankment fill materials.

Erfan Goharian

Erfan Goharian

Dr. Erfan Goharian’s research focuses on water resources systems analysis and integrated management of water resources. He develops complex quantitative and computational models with the purpose of providing enhanced knowledge needed to better understand interactions in coupled human-natural systems and water-energy-food nexus, and how they are shaped by climate, environmental, economic, social and political changes.

Shamia Hoque

Shamia Hoque

Dr. Hoque’s research interests are on the development and application of mathematical models for fluid flow, pathogen dispersion and decontamination in the environmental system with the objective of informing risk assessors and first responders.

Nathan Huynh

Nathan Huynh

Dr. Huynh's main research areas are seaport operations, logistics, and drayage truck operations. He has also conducted research in the areas of real-time traffic estimation and prediction, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and travel behavior. 

Jasim Imran

Jasim Imran

Dr. Imran's area of specialization is water resources engineering. His major research interests are interdisciplinary in nature and involve application of fluid mechanics to study flow processes of both engineering and geophysical significance.

Lindsey A LaRocque

Lindsey A LaRocque

 Dr. LaRocque’s research focuses on the effects of dam and levee breaching in the effort to mitigate potential flooding disasters.  The focus of her studies are to conduct dam-break and levee breach flows, both large and small scale, using video-image processing, Ultrasonic Velocity Profiler for velocity and a Baumer Distance Measuring Device for water surface.

Fabio Matta

Dr. Matta’s team conducts experimental and theoretical research on construction materials and their structural performance, ranging from affordable and high-quality earth masonry to advanced cement- and polymer-matrix composites.

Steve McAnally

Steve McAnally

Dr. McAnally's research interests focus on water and wastewater treatment, particularly appropriate technology applications for developing communities.

Michael Meadows

Michael Meadows

Dr. Meadows (aka DOP) area of specialization is water resources engineering with emphasis on stormwater modeling and management. His research is applied with emphasis on real world applications. He co-teaches the Capstone Senior Design class that involves students with projects that cover all areas of Civil Engineering.

Robert Mullen

Robert Mullen

Dr. Mullen's research interests are in the areas of computer modeling of engineering systems, biomechanics, mechanical behavior of micro electro-mechanical systems, coupled field problems, and interval methods for treating uncertainty.

Charles Pierce

Charles Pierce is Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of South Carolina. His research interests involve time domain reflectometry engineering applications, soil-structure interaction, slope stability and slope monitoring.

Yu Qian

Yu Qian

Dr. Yu Qian has been working on transportation infrastructure related research, including heavy haul, urban transit and high-speed railroad, pavement design and ground improvement. His research interests mainly focus on intelligent infrastructure design, inspection and maintenance, discrete and finite element simulation, machine learning and image analysis.  He is currently serving as the Secretary of ASCE Rail Transportation Committee, committee member for three Committees at the Transportation Research Board (TRB), and two Committees at the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA).

Dimitris Rizos

Dimitris Rizos

His areas of interest are in Structural Mechanics with emphasis on Railway and Highway Infrastructure, High Speed Rail Systems, and Civilian and Military Bridges.

Vidya Samadi

Vidya Samadi

Dr. Samadi’s academic research interests focus on rainfall and flood computational modeling, impact of flooding on critical infrastructure, and uncertainty and optimization methods for catchment simulation. Her industry research interests center on web GIS tools and web GIS app development.

Inthuorn Sasanakul

Inthuorn Sasanakul

Dr. Sasanakul has expertise in geotechnical centrifuge modeling, specializing in soil dynamics, soil characterization, instrumentations, and behavior of soils, and soil-structure systems that are subjected to earthquakes and other natural hazards.

Enrica Viparelli

Enrica Viparelli

Dr. Viparelli's research area is water resources engineering. Her major interests are primarily related to the development of large-scale models of river morphodynamics that can be used for river and coastal restoration, and to study sediment transport, erosion and deposition at laboratory and field scales.

Yeomin Yook

Yeomin Yoon

Dr. Yoon's research focuses on water and wastewater treatment to remove conventional/emerging inorganic and organic contaminants including natural organic matter, perchlorate, chromate, endocrine disrupting compounds, and pharmaceutical compounds from surface and ground waters.

Paul Zeihl

Paul Ziehl

 Dr. Ziehl oversees and maintains an active research program in the areas of structural prognostics, nondestructive evaluation, in-situ load testing, repair and strengthening, composite materials, and prestressed/reinforced concrete structures.
