Each year we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a series
of events held throughout the month of January. Join hands with your Carolina community
to honor Dr. King’s life and to work together to help others.
Annual MLK Events
Each year, we remember the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a slate of annual
events plus special seminars and other learning experiences that continue to spead
his vision and work.
Jan. 19: MLK, Jr. Day of Service
Honor the work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on our Annual Day of Service.
Join thousands of volunteers throughout the country who will serve others in their
community on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Check-in is on
Davis Field (by the reflection pool in front of Thomas Cooper Library).
Jan. 21: Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich-Making Competition
The Arc of South Carolina, the Best Buddies organization, and the Leadership and Service
Center have collaborated for a second year to bring a unique opportunity for students
to get involved. On Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Russell House Ballroom,
students can drop in to take part in a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich-Making Competition.
Participants have the chance to win some prizes! All PB&J's made during the four
hours will be brought to the 153 Project, a local organization that feeds many people
in need every Wednesday night at Finlay Park. Last year, over 650 PB&J's were made.
Come help us break our record!
