The Maritime Research Division offers many opportunities to get involved including workshops, volunteering, and other special events and activities. Please see the links below for specifics on educational and outreach opportunities offered by the Division.

Upcoming Events

 

August 10, 2021-10 AM - 1 PM, Family Fun Day, Coastal Discovery Museum, Hilton Head, SC.

The Maritime Research Division will be demonstrating their survey capabilities on board their boat. Come see demonstrations of how the team collects sonar and magnetic data and how they use that data to further their mission of protecting South Carolina's maritime cultural heritage.

 

Education

Artifact Identification Workshop

Our Artifact Identification Workshop consists of a mixture of lectures and hands-on activities designed to help identify a variety of artifacts found in South Carolina.

Field Training Course

This course is offered in two parts. It is designed for any sport diver who wants the chance to get more involved with underwater archaeology. 

Lectures and Programs

The Maritime Research Division is available to give lectures, presentations, and programs to your group on a variety of topics related to South Carolina maritime archaeological heritage.

Exhibits

The Division often has a number of small exhibits in museums around the state regarding our research.

Conferences

The Division prides itself on our research and education and outreach. MRD is often asked to share that information with both the professional and avocational world.  Each year Division staff attends a number of conferences to speak about or work.  Please see the above section 'Upcoming Events' for any upcoming conferences or presentations.
