Administration
This division provides infrastructural support to the Institute as a whole.
As a university institute, SCIAA initiates and conducts a broad range of field and collections research throughout the state, participates in a wide range of University of South Carolina activities and duties, and contributes to the university infrastructure and publication series. As a state agency, SCIAA serves as the state's official repository for archaeological site data and archaeological collections generated from work on those sites.

ARD provides cultural resource management services to agencies throughout the state and the region.
The Maritime Research Division is responsible for the management of South Carolina's underwater cultural resources.
The Research Division engages in problem-oriented research in South Carolina and adjacent regions.
The SRARP conducts management, research and outreach from its base at the Savannah River Site.
The State Archaeologist serves as advisor to agencies and private individuals on matters of archaeological compliance.
