FPP 3.10 - Teaching Observation of Faculty at the rank of Associate Professor

Revised: April 19, 2012

1. Teaching Observation Committee
Faculty at the rank of Associate Professor will have their teaching observed at least once each year.  Two faculty members at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor shall be assigned by the dean. Faculty assigned by the dean will change each year.

2. Procedures
The evaluation will consist of observations of teaching activities only. In the event the candidate teaches in more than one setting (e.g., applied lessons, classroom, or rehearsal), the committee will arrange to observe the candidate in each setting. Observers will always consult with the candidate in scheduling teaching observations.

3. Written Report
Members of the committee will confer privately prior to the annual spring T&P Committee Meeting and write a teaching evaluation report. This report should be an amalgamation of the committee members' observations regarding teaching in each setting. Statements regarding the quality and quantity of teaching are appropriate.

4. Report Submission
Teaching evaluation reports will not be read at the spring T&P Committee Meeting. A copy of the teaching evaluation report will be forwarded to the faculty member and the dean within one week following the spring T&P Committee Meeting.
