New institute puts USC on the map for vector-borne illness research
Melissa Nolan’s research team explores infectious disease in South Carolina—working to understand the transmission of West Nile Virus and Lyme disease from mosquitos and ticks. Nolan’s work operates through the USC Institute for Infectious Disease Translational Research. Libraries offer Graduate Student Data Visualization Award
The University of South Carolina Libraries is pleased to announce the inaugural Graduate Student Data Visualization Award competition. Submissions are being accepted until Friday, January 5, 2024. Judging will take place in January 2024 with the award(s) being announced and presented during Love Data Week 2024 (Valentine's Day week). Are you looking to recruit undergraduate researchers for a project? The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) promotes research positions through our newsletter, social media, and partner offices. Please submit your experience through the Research Opportunity Submission Form on the OUR website. Additionally, we strongly encourage you to review your entry in the OUR Faculty Research Database. Please email our@sc.edu directly to be added to the system or to update your entry. Include weblinks, research topics/keywords, and any other information you would like provided for students as students utilize it to get a glimpse of research across the system and identify potential mentors. The Office of the Vice President for Research seeks reviewers for internal funding and awards programs
Internal review committees are dedicated to upholding the university’s standards, maintaining outstanding scholarship standards, and directing internal funding equitably and wisely towards innovative research. Annual funding programs seek to elevate unique opportunities for researchers at every level to take on projects that might be challenging to fund through other methods. If you are a faculty member seeking deeper involvement with the research and funding review process, sign up to join a review committee today through the Office of the Vice President for Research.
Internal funding for faculty and graduate students
- SPARC applications are due Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. for graduate students seeking grants for their research. Visit the SPARC program page for information about the application process.
- The RISE program is open to faculty working at USC Aiken, Beaufort, Upstate, and Palmetto College campuses. Applications for RISE are due Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Candidates can attend designated informational sessions online. For Palmetto campuses, the online session takes place Friday, November 3 at noon.
