Scott Fairweather was graduated by the University of Colorado–Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and completed a master’s degree in Social Work at the University of South Carolina. He maintains licensure as a Licensed Independent Social Worker – Clinical Practitioner (LISW-CP) in South Carolina and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in North Carolina. He also provides clinical supervision toward South Carolina LISW–CP licensure.

Scott specializes in the implementation of evidence-based treatments to treat suicide/self-harm behaviors, substance use disorders, and mood disorders. He maintains multiple certifications and is certified through the Linehan Board of Certification as a Certified Dialectical Behavior Therapy Clinician. He has also completed certification requirements through the University of Pennsylvania Psychiatry–Perelman School of Medicine–Centers for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA) to become a Certified Prolonged Exposure Therapist and Consultant. Prolonged Exposure therapy is an evidence-based intervention designed to treat symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Additionally, he has completed the certification process through the CTSA to become a Certified Exposure and Response Prevention Therapist, an intervention designed to treat symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder. He also maintains the Master Addiction Counselor designation through the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals.

Prior to becoming a faculty member with the College of Social work he was employed as a Clinical Instructor with the University of South Carolina’s School of Medicine in the Department of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science. He has accumulated over 15 years of clinical experience and has been employed in both nonprofit agencies and outpatient mental health clinic settings.

As a clinical instructor at the College of Social Work Scott teaches Field Education Seminar courses in the MSW program in addition to serving as a field placement liaison and field supervisor to students.
