The overall objective of the Support to Promote Advancement of Research and Creativity (SPARC) Graduate Research Grant is to provide support and to encourage outstanding students to pursue exciting research directions during their graduate career at the University of South Carolina.
The 2017-2018 SPARC Graduate Research Grant Recipients:
Matthew Blahut and advisor Professor Professor F. Wayne Outten received a total amount of $5,000.00 for their project entitled, “Biochemical and Functional Characterization of the Ferritin-like Protein FtnB in E. coli.”
Baillie DeHaven and advisor Professor Linda Shimizu received a total amount of $5,000.00 for their project entitled, “Selective Photooxidations in Flow: A Path to Greener Industrial Oxidation Methods.”
Jordan Holmes and advisor Professor Parastoo Hashemi received a total amount of $4,895.00 for their project entitled, “Ionophore-Grafted Carbon Fiber Microelectrodes as On-Site Trace Metal Speciation Sensor.”
Preecha Kittikhunnatham and advisor Professor Andrew Greytak received a total amount of $4,999.00 for their project entitled, “Photochemical Doping of Semiconductor Nanowires."
Ammon Sindt and advisor Professor Linda Shimizu received a total amount of $5,000.00 for their project entitled, "Using the Photo-isomerization of Azobenzenes in Co-crystalline Assemblies for the Slow Release of Fragrances."
