Professors Stephen Morgan, Michael Myrick and their graduate students have published two articles on the detection of degradation in polyester-urethane magnetic tape.  The articles recently appeared in Analytical Chemistry  and in Against the Grain, a library conservation journal.  The research outcomes were reported by USC media.
