New National Laboratories Office website offers central location for accessing information and current events

The Office of the Vice President for Research is proud to launch a new website for the National Laboratories Office, which works with the Savannah River National Laboratory and other Department of Energy and federal partners to develop South Carolina’s STEM workforce and support federal research. The new site provides information about programs and events for students and postdocs, federal government and industry partners and more.

Functional Genomics Research Core to host seminar to demonstrate Qiagen QIAcuity Digital PCR System capabilities

We are excited to announce that the Functional Genomics Core has recently acquired the Qiagen QIAcuity Digital PCR System. This advanced technology will enable us to offer digital PCR (dPCR) services, providing researchers with highly accurate and sensitive quantification of nucleic acids.

We invite you to join our seminar to learn more about the capabilities of the QIAcuity system and how this technology can enhance your research. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the benefits of dPCR and how it can be applied to your projects.

Excel funding support for faculty in the liberal arts, humanities and social sciences opens for 2024-2025 grant cycle

The Office of the Vice President for Research is excited to announce that applications are open for Excel funding for 2025. Excel grants support faculty scholarship and creative output in the liberal arts, humanities and social sciences. Now in its third funding round, the Excel Program is open to faculty at USC Columbia and all Palmetto College campuses. Information regarding specific details and application guidelines are now available. Excel 2025 applications are due Thursday, October 10, 2024. 

 

 

New Research Training and Education Services site & upcoming events 

Research Training and Education Services offers workshops to bolster campus resources and community efforts for research excellence. This month, two trainings will take place for Primary Investigators and university research personnel.

  • PI Academy: Finding Funding Opportunities – Wednesday, September 4, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. (live virtual session) This session will center around resources at USC to search for sponsored research funding opportunities. It will also highlight key contacts at USC for proposal development and submission based on the type of funding sponsor. 
  • NIH Resubmission Workshop - Friday, September 27, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (in-person at 1430 Senate Street, Room 305) This workshop will help USC faculty members who are considering resubmission understand the strategy, rules and processes involved in revising and resubmitting an NIH proposal.

SHARPGrads – Graduate Students at USC-Columbia

Attention graduate students! Register now for SHARPGrads, the Skills, Habits, and Research Program for Graduate Students. Columbia-campus students can earn a certificate of completion and digital badge while learning research skills that are often not included in the curriculum. Learn more and register here.
