Thad H. Westbrook, Chair
Westbrook is the 11th Judicial Circuit member of the university’s Board of Trustees.
An attorney, he is a graduate of the USC Honors College and USC School of Law. He
has been a trustee since 2010 and currently serves as vice chairman of the Board of
Brian Canada, Ph.D.
Canada, chair of the USC Beaufort Faculty Senate, is the chair of the Department of
Computer Science. He received his doctorate from Penn State University and was named
USCB Professor of the Year in 2017.
Mark Cooper, Ph.D.
Cooper is the immediate past-chair of the USC Columbia Faculty Senate. A professor
of film and media studies, he is a graduate of Wesleyan University. Cooper earned
his master's and doctorate from Brown University.
English is the 5th Judicial Circuit member of the university’s Board of Trustees.
A South Carolina native and graduate of the university, he is retired businessman
and professional basketball player. He has been a trustee since 2020.
Brian C. Harlan
Harlan is the 8th Judicial Circuit member of the university’s Board of Trustees. He
is a graduate of the university and serves as chief executive officer of the Lakelands
Region YMCA of South Carolina. He has been a trustee since 2020.
Harrell is the USC Columbia Student Government President. He is a native of South
Carolina and studying political science and criminal justice. Harrell previously served
as a USC Columbia Student Senator.
Ernest Jenkins, Ph.D.
Jenkins is the Faculty Senate Chair for the Palmetto College campuses. A graduate
of Furman University, he received his master’s and doctorate from the University of
Kansas. He is an associate professor of history at USC Lancaster.
Lisa Johnson, Ph.D.
Johnson is the USC Upstate Faculty Chair. A professor of women’s and gender studies,
Johnson is the director of the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies at USC Upstate
and earned her Ph.D. from SUNY Binghamton.
Leah B. Moody
Moody is the 16th Judicial Circuit member of the university's Board of Trustees. A
graduate of Hampton University, she earned a law degree from the USC School of Law.
She has been a trustee since 2009.
Emma W. Morris
Morris is the 10th Judicial Circuit member of the university’s Board of Trustees.
An attorney, she is a graduate of the university and Samford University. She has been
a trustee since 2020.
Alexandra Roach, Ph.D.
Roach is chair of the USC Aiken Faculty Assembly. An associate professor in the Department
of Psychology, she received her undergraduate from Pomona College, master’s from Western
Washington University, and doctorate from University of California Davis.
C. Dorn Smith III, M.D.
Smith is the 3rd Judicial Circuit member of the university's Board of Trustees. A
graduate of Wofford College and the USC School of Medicine, he is a physician. He
has been a trustee since 2010 and currently serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees.
Eugene P. Warr Jr.
Warr is the 4th Judicial Circuit member of the Board of Trustees and chairman emeritus
of the board. He is a graduate of USC and its School of Law and is an attorney with
Lucas, Warr & White. He has been a board member since 2003 and served as chairman
Mack I. Whittle Jr.
Whittle is the 13th Judicial Circuit member of the university’s Board of Trustees.
A retired bank executive, he is a graduate of the university. He has been a trustee
since 1990 and served as chairman from 2000-2004.
A graduate of the university, Bennett is vice chair of the USC Educational Foundation
and is an area executive of First Citizens Bank.
Gloria Swindler Boutte, Ph.D.
A graduate of the university, Swindler Boutte is a Carolina Distinguished Professor
in the College of Education. She is also the program coordinator for the Ph.D. program
in teaching and learning and the executive director and founder of the Center for
the Education and Equity of African American Students.
Hossein Haj-Hariri, Ph.D.
Haj-Hariri is a USC Columbia Educational Foundation Distinguished Professor and dean
of the USC College of Engineering and Computing.
Kennedy, a USC alumna, is president, chief executive officer and owner of Nephron
Serving a two-year term as president of the USC Alumni Association, Roberts is president
and co-founder of National Media Research, Planning and Placement.
Seaton, a retired chairman and CEO of Fluor Corporation and university alumnus, previously
served as chair of the 2008-2015 USC Columbia Carolina’s Promise capital campaign
and is a governance advisor to the Board of Trustees.
A graduate of the university, Smith is director of USC Columbia International Student
Services. She is the search committee advocate for USC system staff and administrators
and for matters pertaining to international enrollment.

L. Cameron Howell IV, Ph.D.
Howell is the secretary of the Board of Trustees and serves as search committee secretary.
He first served as a university admissions officer and has since served public universities
and university systems throughout his extensive career.
