The Office of Communications and Public Affairs won four American Advertising Awards in 2018 from the American Advertising Federation of the Midlands. The ADDY Awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition.

Category: Publication Cover DesignFor this cover, we wanted to create a nostalgic picture of USC in the 1970s amid the martial arts craze, with a closer look at a few of the students who made a name for themselves in karate. Improbably, USC became an epicenter of karate competition for a short time. The cover and story art channel the look of the period’s martial arts movies and comic book art to reinforce the story’s nostalgic feel.

Category: Film/Video/Sound Branded Content, More Than :60 SecondsThis video, created in anticipation of 2017’s total solar eclipse, showcased the breadth of the university’s expertise. A diverse group of faculty members and researchers interested in the eclipse came from areas of study as diverse as physics and astronomy, geology, history and art. We also highlighted the fact that we were one of only a few universities able to conduct research during the total eclipse due to our location within the path of totality.

Silver ADDY Award
Category: Illustration SeriesThis publication profiles the winners of our prominent teaching awards. The book is part of a multichannel effort geared toward recognizing and retaining the best teachers among our university faculty. The publication’s illustration series was inspired by the principles embodied by the award winners: vision and innovation. Clean, contemporary icons point to clear vision. The many colors used tie into the university brand and represent the many ideas sparked by our award-winning faculty. Textured patterns bring depth to the modern icons.
