Life at the University of South Carolina is not just about your classes; it's also about making friends and experiencing new things. In addition to your studies, your time here is an opportunity to get involved in student organizations that can help you open future doors.

    Ad Team

    Each year, a South Carolina student team faces a real client challenge and tough competitors from across the country. We call it Ad Team. The American Advertising Federation calls it the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC). The competition provides a case study outlining a brand’s history and its current advertising situation. 

    Cocky's Reading Express

    Travel the state with Cocky, the USC mascot, and visit elementary schools. You can read to the children as Cocky performs and acts out the stories. Join for a couple of hours or an entire day. It’s up to you! 

    CreateAthon@USC

    This event is a 24-hour creative blitz dedicated to helping South Carolina nonprofits, and the people they serve. Student leaders work with student volunteers over a two-day period to produce free advertising and marketing communications materials that improve their communities. 

    The Daily Gamecock

    The Daily Gamecock is the editorially independent student newspaper at the University of South Carolina. All students are invited to participate regardless of major, year in school or previous experience. Areas of involvement include reporting, writing, editing, public relations, photography, marketing, website management, layout and design. Volunteer and paid positions are available.     Garnet & Black

    Garnet & Black magazine is the university's student-produced magazine.  Whether exploring national issues and their impact on campus or covering the latest in arts and entertainment, the G&B creates a buzz on campus.     Library and Information Science Student Association

    The Library and Information Science Student Association (LISSA) at  USC is a professional, social and service organization composed of students and alumni of the School of Information Science (iSchool). As a student chapter group of the American Library Association (ALA), LISSA provides its members opportunities for professional growth, networking, leadership and service to the community.

    NABJ

    National Association of Black Journalists

    The mission of this college organization is to establish a strong union among black students pursuing degrees in journalism, broadcasting, visual communications, public relations, mass communications and other majors interested in getting an insight into the media world. They offer members networking opportunities and resources they need to be successful in the journalism field. Members get to cover events, create broadcast stories, write for our blog, and more.

    PRSSA and Bateman Team

    PRSSA is a professional organizations for students in public relations, where students will be educated in the profession and prepared to enter the workforce with the necessary skills. The Bateman Case Study Competition is the PRSSA’s premier national case study competition for public relations students. 

    SAF

    The Student Advertising Federation is a student chapter of the American Advertising Federation. An SAF membership gives you access to many opportunities to experience the ad world. Between the industry speakers, agency tours, ad competitions, and exciting trips, SAF can show you more than any class or textbook. You'll also have access to exclusive scholarships and internships. Kristin Walker is the faculty sponsor of SAF.

    SGTV

    SGTV provides student-produced informative and entertaining television programming through the university's cable channel 4 and online at sgtv.sc.edu.  Students can get hands-on experience in video production, editing, website management and distribution.     WUSC-FM

     WUSC-FM is USC's educational, non-commercial, free-format radio station at 90.5. The station transmits at 2,500 watts with a range of 30 miles and serves an international audience at wusc.sc.edu. Students interested in radio production, announcing, music reviewing, website management or promotion are encouraged to join the staff.
