M.M.C.

Degree Requirements

M.M.C. students complete 12 courses for a total of 36 hours*. To complete the M.M.C. program students will also complete a practicum and comprehensive  exam.

M.M.C. Required Courses (12 hours):

  • Research Methods in Mass Communication
  • Media Law
  • Issues in Mass Communication Management
  • Practicum in Mass Communication Management (working with an organization or agency in their chosen field.) 

Required for either emphasis (3 hours):

  • Foundations of Multimedia Journalism

Broadcast emphasis (12 hours):

  • Advanced Reporting Topics
  • Capstone I: Advanced Reporting
  • Capstone II: Advanced Broadcast
  • Capstone III: Digital Journalism

Journalism emphasis (12 hours):

  • Advanced Reporting Topics
  • Capstone I: Advanced Reporting (multimedia)
  • Capstone II: Advanced Multimedia Journalism
  • Capstone III: Digital Journalism 

Recommended electives (9 hours):

  • Strategic Communication Principles
  • New Technologies and the Mass Media
  • Communication Theory
  • History of Mass Media
  • Literature of Mass Communication
  • Applied Communication Research
  • Applied Visual Communication
  • Other courses as approved

 Written Examination

  • A four-hour written exam based on the core classes.
