Become a Peer Leader

University 101 peer leaders are exceptional juniors or seniors who are chosen to serve as a co-instructor in a University 101 class.

If you are interested in becoming a fall 2023 University 101 Peer Leader, please take some time to learn about the position and begin your application today!



  • Junior or above standing during the semester they serve (by year, not by credits)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and involvement in other substantive areas of university life

A University 101 Peer Leader Is:

  • an active and involved member of the Carolina community
  • confident in their ability to lead others
  • dedicated to helping others succeed
  • appropriately assertive
  • able to think on their feet
  • able to speak in front of a classroom of peers
  • comfortable leading difficult conversations 
  • proud to be a student at the University of South Carolina
  • a model of the Carolinian Creed

Thursday, September 1, 2022- New Peer Leader Applications Available

Note: Students who plan to study abroad during spring 2023 or wish to be considered for a fall interview and early decision should apply by the study abroad/early decision deadline. All other candidates may apply by the regular decision deadline.

Oct. 18, 2022 - Application Deadline
Oct. 21, 2022 - Recommendation Deadline
Nov. 8 - 11, 2022- Interviews (In-Person)
Dec. 2, 2022 - Commitment Deadline 

Jan. 18, 2023 - Application Deadline

Apply to be a Returning Peer Leader or Senior Peer Leader! 

Applications due January 11th, 2023

Any student who served as a University 101 Peer Leader this fall, can apply to serve as a Returning Peer Leader and/or a Senior Peer Leader in fall 2023. Returning Peer Leaders co-teach a section of UNIV 101 and act as mentors for first-year students. Senior Peer Leaders co-teach a section of EDLP 520 and act as mentors to New Peer Leaders.
