University 101 Scholarship Nomination

The University 101 Scholarship recognizes and rewards undergraduate students who have made significant contributions to the learning environment and community within the University 101 classroom, and who have incorporated the course’s ideals and values into their academics and co-curricular experiences outside the classroom.

To be considered for the scholarship, students must be nominated by their University 101 instructor, have a minimum overall 3.0 GPA, be currently enrolled full-time at USC, and submit a complete scholarship application.

A maximum of eight recipients will be selected and each awarded a $500 scholarship to be distributed evenly to University of South Carolina tuition and fee payment over the fall 2019 and spring 2020 semesters ($250.00 applied to each semester). Out-of-state recipients also receive reduced tuition rates for the 2019-20 academic year.

Nomination Guidelines
As a University 101 instructor, you are invited to nominate up to two students from your spring 2018, summer 2018, and/or fall 2018 University 101 class. If you taught more than one semester in 2018, or if you taught multiple sections during a semester, you may nominate up to two students from each class.

Please consider nominating students who made significant contributions to achieving the goals of the University 101 course, who enriched the class in a unique and powerful way, or who served as role models and examples for other students in your class. Consider which students had the most impact on the learning environment and community within your classroom – the students who made your class richer by being there.

To nominate students for the University 101 Scholarship, please submit the form below and write a supporting letter for each student. Supporting letters should be at least one page in length, typed, and describe in detail your reasons for nominating the student. Separate nomination forms and supporting letters must be provided for each student. Please note: the selection committee will give equal consideration to the nomination letter and the student’s completed application and personal statement.

Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2019.
