The Carolina Grants and Innovation Hub (CGI Hub) website is live!
The Office of the Vice President for Research is excited to announce the launch of a new site for our emerging Carolina Grants and Innovation Hub. The site houses information about services, news and events provided by the CGI Hub, including but not limited to:
- Grant writing and technical editing assistance
- Budget development and justification
- Faculty training programs like the popular Propel Research Mentorship Program
- Research development toolbox for federal agency templates, requirements and ancillary documents
- On-demand training, including access to DataCamp, which is offered in partnership with the Office of the Provost
Led by Emily Devereux, DPA, the Executive Director of Research Development, the CGI Hub is an evolving team of innovative research support staff equipped with the skills to take USC research to the next level. Faculty researchers and research administrators are encouraged to take full advantage of the comprehensive research development and training services that the CGI Hub offers.
NIH Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence Deadline: Thursday, January 23, 2025
A COBRE Phase 1 award supports the establishment of a multi-component center of excellence in an area of biomedical research that aligns with the applicant institution’s strategic priorities for growing its research capacity. Established investigators with scientific expertise in the research area of the Center as well as mentoring and administrative experience are encouraged to apply as Program Director/Principal Investigators (PD/PI) for this award. New Public Access Requirements for Federally Funded Research: What You Need to Know
In 2022, the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) released a memo titled Ensuring Free, Immediate and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research, that creates additional sharing requirements for publications and data resulting from research funded by federal agencies including the NIH, NSF, etc. University Libraries has created an online guide to help you navigate the upcoming changes. USC School of Medicine Columbia seeks faculty mentors for the 2025 Student Opportunities for Academic Achievement through Research (SOAR) program
The SOAR program is an 8-week research/scholarly project internship for USC School of Medicine medical students during the summer between their MI and MII years. This program offers a $2,500 stipend for the student and up to $500 reimbursement for the mentor’s project-related supplies/costs. The Functional Genomics Core and the USC Big Data Health Science Center Genomics Core host: “Human Reference Pangenome: A Population-Inclusive Bioinformatics Pipeline”
Michael Shtutman (Associate Professor, Scientific Director of the Functional Genomics Core) and Carlos Alfaro Quinde (M.S. student in the Kathrein Lab, Department of Biological Sciences) will present a seminar entitled “Human Reference Pangenome: A Population-Inclusive Bioinformatics Pipeline.” The talk will take place in the Coker Life Sciences Building, Room 510, on Tuesday, January 21, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, contact Michael Shtutman at shtutmanm@cop.sc.edu.
