The novel coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting virtually every facet of life across the world. Because UofSC is a comprehensive research university, COVID-19 presents our researchers with a unique opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary research to examine a variety of issues that surround this pandemic, from diagnostics and drug discovery to epidemiology, and its impact on the economy and tourism.
The Office of the Vice President for Research is offering competitive funding through a special initiative to support COVID-19-related research by faculty from all disciplines, across the UofSC system. The goal of this program, which will provide grants of approximately $5,000 to $25,000, is to help faculty members initiate impactful new research projects and generate preliminary results that could be developed on a larger scale to secure extramural funding to pursue more comprehensive studies.
Refer to the request for proposals (pdf) for complete details on the COVID-19 Research Initiative. Faculty should consider the feasibility of pursuing these studies in the context of a highly fluid situation with respect to COVID-19, in terms of the university closing and travel advisory (pdf). All proposals must be submitted in USCeRA by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. If you have any questions, please contact Beth Herron.
