Each spring, the Office of the Vice President for Research honors the recipients of Breakthrough Awards with two very special events. Faculty recipients of the Breakthrough Leadership in Research Award and the Breakthrough Stars Award enjoy a special dinner, and graduate student recipients of the Breakthrough Graduate Scholars Award are invited to bring their faculty mentors to a memorable luncheon.

But hearty meals, handsome trophies and plaques, and good fellowship are not the only recognitions Breakthrough Award recipients enjoy to mark their achievements. The Office of the Vice President for Research celebrates these distinguished honorees throughout the spring semester in a number of ways. Working with University Publications, the Office of the VPR prepares a glossy, graphics-rich booklet with photos and profiles of each award recipient, and distributes the booklet to all USC faculty. Breakthrough Leadership in Research Award recipients are also honored with banners in the Thomas Cooper Library. The banners go up in the spring, and remain on display throughout the year to commemorate the outstanding achievements of senior researchers who take a multifaceted approach to inspiring excellence in research.
