Mentorship Program

New transfer students starting at USC-Columbia in Summer or Fall 2026 are eligible to apply for the Transfer Student Mentorship Program.

The Transfer Student Mentorship Program through the Carolina Experience office is an opportunity for new transfer students to connect to USC, meet other new transfer students and develop a mentee relationship with an upperclassman peer leader who has been trained to support new transfer students.  

Transfer students who participate in the Transfer Student Mentorship Program will: 

  • Meet other new transfer students.
  • Develop a one-on-one mentor/mentee relationship with an upperclassman peer leader.
  • Feel a sense of belonging at USC Columbia.
  • Will be aware of resources available to them at USC Columbia.

Guidelines and Requirements 

  • Transfer students who started at USC Columbia in Summer 2026 or Fall 2026 are eligible to apply for the program.
    NOTE: Students MUST have been accepted to USC for Summer/Fall 2026 and will be taking classes at USC Columbia in Fall 2026 to be considered.  
  • Space is limited and an application does not guarantee acceptance.  
  • Applications must be completed by the transfer student. 
  • Applications are due on July 30, 2026
  • Decisions will go out in early August 2026
  • Students who are accepted to the program will: 
    • Be paired with an upperclassmen Carolina Experience Peer Leader. 
    • Attend a welcome meeting and meal with all participants scheduled for Sunday, August 16 from 4 p.m.- 6 p.m.
    • Will have a one-on-one monthly meeting with their peer leader in September, October, and November.
    • Attend one program that is part of the Transfer Welcome Series (kicks off on August 17 and runs through September 2).
    • Attend one program that is offered as a part of National Transfer Student Week (can select from 5+ programs happening October 19-23).
    • Join a GroupMe with other participants and peer leaders.
    • Complete a survey at the end of the semester.
    • Additionally, monthly fun activities will be offered once a month in September, October, and November. Dates and events TBD, but examples include going to Soda City Market together, a craft night, a game night, and going to Tiger Burn together.

Applications are due no later than July 30 at 11:59 p.m. and late applications will not be accepted. Complete the online application.
