Common FAQs about Carolina Experience Consultations
The Carolina Experience office NEVER requires that a student participate in a consultation.
However, other offices or programs may require that their students participate in a Carolina Experience consultation.
Consultations take place either in person in the Carolina Experience office OR they take place virtually over Microsoft Teams.
YOU will select if you want an in-person or virtual appointment when you sign up in the Navigate system.
Please note the question below about virtual appointments.
If you schedule a virtual appointment you will need to download or login to Microsoft Teams to have the appointment.
See specific details in the “Attending Your Online Appointment” section above.
The CEPL that you are meeting with will send you a calendar invite for the appointment, and the Teams link will be in the invite.
Just click the link to start the meeting!
We ask you please have your camera ON during your appointment and that you are in a quiet place where you can talk.
We ask that you please NOT lay in bed for the consultation.

Available consultation types should appear, along with upcoming days and times that are available.
Select the consultation type, day and time that work best for you!
Sometimes the system has a few quirks.
If you would like to make an appointment for a specific Carolina Experience consultation type and it is not giving you that option, please select the next closest class year.
Ex: You want to make junior success consultation, but the system is only giving you an option for sophomore success consultation.
Select the sophomore success consultation but just say in the comments which appointment type you would like.
We can adjust topics when you come in for your meeting!
Come with questions!
These appointments can be nearly anything you want them to be and the CEPLs can chat about how to get involved on campus, how to think about internships, preparing for academic advising, talking about life, and more!
It is your appointment, so come with questions. We also recommend that you have your laptop available!
The CEPLs spend a lot of time preparing for appointments before you arrive.
They also have limited availability.
In order to best maximize their time and availability we hold to a strict 24 hour before the appointment cancellation policy.
If you no show your appointment twice OR cancel your appointment less than 24 hours in advance twice a hold will be placed on your ability to make appointments with us and you will need to chat with the CX team to resolve the issue.
You will be meeting with a Carolina Experience Peer Leader (CEPL).
These are junior, senior, and graduate students who have gone through extensive training to help their peers!
Every undergraduate student at USC has been assigned a CEPL and this peer leader shows up in the “Success Team” in your personal Navigate profile.
You can meet with your assigned CEPL or any CEPL whose availability best works with your schedule.
Yes!
Please come and meet with the CEPLs as often as you find helpful!
However, if you are required by another office or program to have more than one appointment, we do recommend spacing them out over a few weeks.
Do not do them all in the same week!
