The Transfer Student Mentorship Program through the Carolina Experience office is an opportunity for new transfer students to connect to USC, meet other new transfer students and develop a mentee relationship with an upperclassman peer leader who has been trained to support new transfer students.
Transfer students who participate in the Transfer Student Mentorship Program will:
- Meet other new transfer students.
- Develop a one-on-one mentor/mentee relationship with an upperclassman peer leader.
- Feel a sense of belonging at USC Columbia.
- Will be aware of resources available to them at USC Columbia.
Guidelines and Requirements
- Transfer students who started at USC Columbia in Summer 2024 or Fall 2024 are eligible
to apply for the program.
NOTE: Students MUST have been accepted to USC for Summer/Fall 2024 and will be taking classes at USC Columbia in Fall 2024 to be considered. - Space is limited and an application does not guarantee acceptance.
- Applications must be completed by the transfer student.
- Applications are due on August 8, 2024.
- Decisions will go out in mid-August 2024.
- Students who are accepted to the program will:
- Be paired with an upperclassmen Carolina Experience Peer Leader.
- Attend a welcome meeting with all participants in mid to late August.
- Will have a one-on-one monthly meeting with their peer leader in September, October, November, and December.
- Attend one program that is part of the Transfer Welcome Series (can select from 10+ programs).
- Attend one program that is offered as a part of National Transfer Student Week (can select from 5+ programs).
- Attend one small group meal with all peer leaders and mentees participating in the program during the fall semester. The meal will be provided.
- Join a GroupMe with other participants and peer leaders.
- Complete a survey at the end of the semester.
