Healthy Semester Fitness Coaching

This semester-long comprehensive program combines personal training sessions with educational workshops help you individually reach your goals.  This program is perfect for the new exerciser looking to learn and how and why’s of working out or the advanced exerciser looking to break a plateau with an advanced training program. Spaces limited.

Meet Me at the Bar(bell) & Weight Room Orientation 

Week of Jan. 25, Strom Board Room
Week of Feb. 1, Blatt Reception Area
A comprehensive two-part wellness program designed to enhance the gym experience for students of any fitness level. While learning about proper exercise form from Certified Personal Trainer and resources from Campus Recreation and Student Health Services, participants will understand how the gym can play a role in self-care, healthy relationships, and overall wellness. Weight Room Orientations at Strom and Blatt will also be offered throughout the week.

Friday Happy Hour Workout 

3:30 p.m.-5 p.m. (3:30-4:30 p.m. workout, 4:30-5 p.m. debrief)
Join us every Friday for a free small group training fitness class with a different exercise focus each week. Each workshop concludes with an educational debrief on the topic. Topics include functional training, sports performance, HIIT, strength/hypertrophy, and more! 

Feb. 8: Functional Training 
What is “functional training?” Join our personal training staff as we cover what creates an effective functional training program.

Feb. 15: Sports Performance Training
Our personal training staff will host a workout based on speed, power, agility, and endurance.

Feb. 22: Improving your Bench Press-Strength Training
Learn how to effectively increase your “pushing” strength as our personal trainers put you through a strength-based push day workout.

March 1: Improving your Squat-Strength Training
Get the basics needed to increase your squat while sweating through a strength-based lower body workout.

March 8: Improving your Deadlift-Strength Training
Increasing your deadlift without greatly increasing your risk of injury is difficult. Get ready to focus on safety and technique principles throughout the lower-body emphasized workout.

March 22: Upper Body Hypertrophy
The goal of hypertrophy training is to gain size and strength. Join our personal training staff as we put you through a high volume strength workout and discuss training techniques for hypertrophy.

March 29: Lower Body Hypertrophy
During part two, our trainers will get you working your lower body to fatigue while highlighting exercises to help grow your legs.

April 5: HIIT Training
High intensity interval training is based on manipulating work and rest intervals. Get ready to sweat during this interval-based full-body workout.

April 12: Active Recovery/Injury Prevention
Foam rollers, massage sticks, and mobility training will be the focus during this recovery workout. Be ready to learn that ‘recovery’ doesn't necessarily mean you will not be sweating throughout this circuit-based workout.

April 19: Total Workout
We’ll take a little from each workshop to deliver the ultimate full-body workout. Don’t forget your towel and water bottle because you’ll be begging for breaks during this intense workout.

April 26: Finals Stress Relief Workout
Get ready for finals with this challenging and fun full-body workout that will be sure to leave you with a smile and ready for finals!

Fall 2018

Fitness Combine

Aug. 31
Campus Recreation is holding a fitness combine. This event is open to all students and student organizations of all levels of fitness. It is designed to test strength, speed, agility and power.

Body composition analysis
Broad jump
40-yd dash* (laser timed)
Vertical jump*
5-10-5 agility test*
Functional movement screening- FMS
Agility L-test

Prizes awarded to top male and female competitors!

Individual Participant Info:
Check-in: 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.
Strom Recreation Fields
$5 registration includes results sheet and participant t-shirt for first 100 registrants

Organizations/Team Info:
Noon- 3 p.m. sport club teams/student org times
Sport Club, Greek Life, and Student Organizations can reserve times for their group to come in together.

Campus Recreation Open House  

Aug. 31
Want to be up to date on services being offered through Campus Recreation? Join us at our open house hosted at Strom and speak with a representative from each department! There will also be a personal trainer Q&A, info session on all campus recreation services, and Blatt weight room Grand Re-Opening with raffles and giveaways.  

Weight Room Orientation Week  

Sept. 3-7
Blatt weight room: M-F, Noon and 6 p.m.
Strom weight room: M-F, 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Unfamiliar with our fitness centers? Participate in an interactive tour to get acclimated to the machines and fitness advice. Stop by Blatt and Strom all week for free weight room orientations by one of our personal training staff.

Learn by Doing: HIIT 

Sept. 14, 2-3 p.m.
Blatt weight room
Want to train like an athlete? Join our personal trainers as we go over how to utilize the turf and surrounding equipment at Blatt for high-intensity interval training, agility work, and metabolic conditioning.

Oct. 5, 2-3 p.m.
Strom weight room
How can you increase your bench max, but still keep safety in mind? Find out with our personal trainers during our hands-on bench press workshop covering variations of this well-known movement. Technique and program tips covered. 

Learn by Doing: Deadlift

Oct. 12, 2-3 p.m.
Blatt weight room
Want to learn one of the most fundamental movements in resistance training? Pick up something heavy with our personal trainers as we dive into how to properly perform a deadlift. Variations and program design will also be covered. 

Learn by Doing: Olympic Lifting

Oct. 19, 2-3 p.m.
Blatt weight room
Interested in getting into weightlifting? Join our personal trainers as we practice the basics of the snatch, clean, and jerk. Learn regression and progression exercises to master these complex movements that will add a new dimension to your workout.

Learn by Doing: Active Recovery Day

Oct. 26, 2-3 p.m.
Should I plan recovery days into my work out? Join our personal trainers and Certified Athletic Trainers as we go through recovery and pre-hab exercises geared towards maintaining mobility and flexibility on your days off.  Injury prevention and overtraining will also be covered.
