FitWell Workshops and Special Events

Healthy Semester Fitness Coaching

July 20-Aug. 31
This semester-long comprehensive program combines personal training sessions with educational workshops help you individually reach your goals.  This program is perfect for the new exerciser looking to learn and how and why’s of working out or the advanced exerciser looking to break a plateau with an advanced training program. Program starts 9/10. Spaces limited.

Fitness Combine

Aug. 31
Campus Recreation is holding a fitness combine. This event is open to all students and student organizations of all levels of fitness. It is designed to test strength, speed, agility and power.

SCORED EVENTS:
Body composition analysis
Broad jump
40-yd dash* (laser timed)
Vertical jump*
5-10-5 agility test*
Functional movement screening- FMS
Agility L-test

Prizes awarded to top male and female competitors!

Individual Participant Info:
Check-in: 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.
Strom Recreation Fields
$5 registration includes results sheet and participant t-shirt for first 100 registrants

Organizations/Team Info:
Noon- 3 p.m. sport club teams/student org times
Sport Club, Greek Life, and Student Organizations can reserve times for their group to come in together.

Campus Recreation Open House

Want to be up to date on services being offered through Campus Recreation? Join us at our open house hosted at Strom and speak with a representative from each department! There will also be a personal trainer Q&A, info session on all campus recreation services, and Blatt weight room Grand Re-Opening with raffles and giveaways.

Weight Room Orientation Week 

Sept. 3-7
Blatt weight room: M-F, Noon and 6 p.m.
Strom weight room: M-F, 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Unfamiliar with our fitness centers? Participate in an interactive tour to get acclimated to the machines and fitness advice. Stop by Blatt and Strom all week for free weight room orientations by one of our personal training staff.

Learn by Doing: HIIT 

Sept. 14, 2-3 p.m.
Blatt weight room
Want to train like an athlete? Join our personal trainers as we go over how to utilize the turf and surrounding equipment at Blatt for high-intensity interval training, agility work, and metabolic conditioning.

Meet Me at the Bar(bell) is a comprehensive wellness program designed to enhance the gym experience for students of any fitness level. While learning about proper exercise form from Certified Personal Trainer and resources from Campus Recreation and Student Health Services, participants will understand how the gym can play a role in self-care, healthy relationships, and overall wellness.

How can you increase your bench max, but still keep safety in mind? Find out with our personal trainers during our hands-on bench press workshop covering variations of this well-known movement. Technique and program tips covered.

Want to learn one of the most fundamental movements in resistance training? Pick up something heavy with our personal trainers as we dive into how to properly perform a deadlift. Variations and program design will also be covered.

Learn by Doing: Olympic Lifting

Oct. 19, 2-3 p.m.

Interested in getting into weightlifting? Join our personal trainers as we practice the basics of the snatch, clean, and jerk. Learn regression and progression exercises to master these complex movements that will add a new dimension to your workout.

Learn by Doing: Active Recovery Day 

Oct. 26, 2-3 p.m.

Should I plan recovery days into my work out? Join our personal trainers and Certified Athletic Trainers as we go through recovery and pre-hab exercises geared towards maintaining mobility and flexibility on your days off.  Injury prevention and overtraining will also be covered.

Learn the proper mechanics of squats to keep your workouts safe and effective? Join our personal trainers for this hands-on workshop as we review the proper form and technique for this compound movement.
