The University of South Carolina College of Social Work is excited to announce the reaffirmation of accreditation of its BSW and MSW programs from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the accrediting body for social work programs in the United States.
This reaffirmation reflects the college's commitment to quality education and rigorous standards, ensuring that students are well prepared for meaningful careers in social work. Accreditation from CSWE is a critical benchmark that assures students and the public of the college’s ability to produce highly qualified and skilled social work professionals.
The recent reaffirmation effort has involved years of rigorous quality assessment of USC’s BSW and MSW programs including self-studies for both programs, site visits and CSWE Board of Accreditation reviews to ensure compliance with educational policies and accreditation standards.
"This reaffirmation of accreditation by the CSWE is a testament to the hard work, dedication and quality of our faculty, staff, field education community and students,” said Dean Teri Browne. “It reflects our commitment to preparing compassionate, ethical and skilled social workers who will serve and advocate for individuals, families and communities in South Carolina and beyond. Thank you to all faculty, staff, community partners and students who worked so hard for years for this accomplishment.”
The Board of Accreditation’s decision is significant, according to the CSWE’s statement on the value and benefits of accreditation: “Attending a CSWE-accredited social work program provides assurance that the program in which a student enrolls is committed to quality and educating students on social work competencies necessary to enter practice.”
“Graduating from a CSWE-accredited program can help students qualify for employment or licensure in roles that require this credential,” says Browne. “This accreditation assures the public that our programs have the necessary resources, administrative structure and curriculum to prepare graduates to deliver competent and ethical social work services.”
The reaffirmation will remain in effect until 2032, underscoring the college’s long-term commitment to academic excellence and social work education.
