Dr. Habing joined the Department of Statistics at the University of South Carolina in 1998 after obtaining his PhD in Statistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research has focused on psychometrics and scale construction, with a particular emphasis on the theory and applications of multidimensional item response theory.  He is also interested in statistics education, including the development of new courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, and has worked with the AP Statistics program. He is particularly grateful for the privilege of directing or co-directing sixteen students as they completed their PhDs.  Currently serving half-time as the Associate Director for Education Activities and Research for the DC Office of the National Institute of Statistical Sciences (NISS), he is also associate editor for Applied Psychological Measurement.
