Tenure-Track - Post 1850 History of African American Women, Gender and/or Sexuality

The faculty of the Department of History at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invite applications for a 9-month, full time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Post 1850 History of African American Women, Gender and/or Sexuality to begin August 16, 2025.

Candidates must have a PhD by the time of appointment.  Evidence of a well-defined research and teaching agenda as well as a strong scholarly record are required. The position has a 2:2 teaching load consisting of introductory and advanced undergraduate courses and graduate level courses in the applicant’s areas of interest. Research field is open.

African American history is one of the Department of History’s core areas. Several colleagues have research and teaching specialties in this field. Opportunities for interdisciplinary connections are excellent and include USC’s Department of African American Studies, the Department of Women and Gender Studies, and the Center for Civil Rights History and Research. Tenure-Track  - U.S. History – Colonial or Early Republic

Candidates must have a PhD by the time of appointment. Evidence of a well-defined research and teaching agenda as well as a strong scholarly record are required. The position has a 2:2 teaching load consisting of introductory and advanced undergraduate courses and graduate level courses in the applicant’s areas of interest. Research field is open.
