Bio

Shadya Davis joined the Department of Geography in 2024 after completing her postdoctoral research with NOAA's Global Systems Laboratory at Howard University. She holds a doctorate in Atmospheric Sciences (2022) from Howard University in Washington, D.C.  She received her B. S. in Interdisciplinary Earth and Atmospheric Sciences with support in Anthropology from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. While a meteorologist by training, her research deeply integrates the interpersonal and societal dynamics that are affected by extreme weather events. Her main research interests include risk perceptions and protective actions by the public during extreme weather events, and how weather information is generated and used by meteorologists and organizational decision makers.
