Drs. Kristen Hogan, Andy Schumpert, and Amanda Zeigler receive a CIEL grant

Focused on University of South Carolina Columbia and the Palmetto College campuses, the Center for Integrative and Experiential Learning  (CIEL) advances integrative and experiential learning across within and beyond the classroom experiences for faculty, students, and staff by providing programs, developing resources, conducting outreach, and facilitating assessment. In order to promote student engagement beyond the classroom, CIEL is offering different grants to enable the development of new and revised programs, as well as collaboration between departments, offices, academic units, and student affairs.

Drs. Kristen Hogan, Andy Schumpert, and Amanda Zeigler have been awarded Beyond the Classroom Departmental and Unit Grants, which provide support for building a new program or enhance an existing one that engages students beyond the classroom to contribute to departmental or unit learning outcomes. Drs. Hogan and Schumpert received $3,000 for their BIOL 497 course titled "Beyond the Barriers: Disease, Immunity, and Societal Impacts". Dr. Zeigler received $3,000 for her BIOL 499 course titled "Revitalizing Scientific Inquiry: Enhancing Research and Experiential Learning Through Mentorship Initiatives". Congrats!
