Dr. Michelle Passerotti highlighted in Women of Fisheries

Women of Fisheries blog series, Research Highlights!, features published fisheries research conducted by women researchers on the second Monday of each month. This June, Women of Fisheries highlights Dr. Michelle Passerotti, who recently obtained her PhD after working with Dr. Joe Quattro. Michelle's research focused on using innovative techniques to assess age and condition in marine finfish and shark species, with the goal of using these findings to further management and global ocean policy and conservation. Michelle has notably adapted a method used to age insects and cadavers to ageing ear stones in fish in order to determine their age. In their highlight, Women of Fisheries not only discuss Michelle's recent study, "Age estimation of red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) using FT-NIR spectroscopy: feasibility of application to production ageing for management", published in the ICES Journal of Marine Science, but also describes Michelle's journey through graduate school. An inspiring read!
