Dr. Lydia Matesic and her lab just published a new study in the American Journal of Physiology! The study demonstrates that induction of the ubiquitin ligase WWP1 in mice induces several problems in the heart including left ventricular hypertrophy, diastolic dysfunction, and extra-cellular matrix accumulation, that are consistent with a phenotype of heart failure with a preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Since HFpEF is a growing cause of heart failure and commonly afflicts the elderly, this new study may identify a new therapeutic pathway for its treatment. Great work!
