Upward Bound

The goal of USC Sumter's Upward Bound program is to increase the rate at which student participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education.

Program Information

The USC Sumter Upward Bound Program is a federally funded program that provides comprehensive support services to students at Manning High School in Clarendon, SC. The program is designed to support underrepresented, low-income, and first-generation high school students to help them overcome the barriers they face in accessing higher education.

The program has a maximum capacity of 60 students, from 9th to 12th grade, and offers a range of services to help students succeed academically and prepare for college. These services include academic instruction, tutoring, counseling, mentoring, and college readiness workshops.

During the academic year, classes and tutorial sessions are held on a monthly basis on Saturdays. These sessions are designed to provide students with additional academic support and give them the opportunity to engage with their peers and instructors outside of the traditional classroom setting.

Overall, the USC Sumter Upward Bound Program is committed to providing students with the resources and support they need to achieve their educational goals and ensure that higher education is accessible to all, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Upward Bound strives to empower students through a range of activities and workshops. One such event is Academic Saturday, where students can enhance their abilities through academic workshops. The event also offers opportunities for students to participate in various college and community activities, as well as cultural activities.

Additionally, college admissions counseling provides valuable guidance and assistance with completing financial aid and college admissions applications. With this support, the students are well on their way to achieving their dreams and reaching their full potential.

Our Upward Bound Program is a comprehensive four-week summer program that aims to provide students with an enriching and immersive learning experience. The program is designed to prepare our students for their upcoming core classes.

The program includes a variety of activities, such as academic classes, elective workshops, and interactive sessions that cover a range of topics and subjects. The program's primary goal is to prepare students for college-level coursework and help them develop the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their academic pursuits.

In addition to the academic component, the program also includes a bridge component that is specifically designed for graduated seniors. This component focuses on providing students with the tools and resources needed to make a smooth transition from high school to college. This is an excellent opportunity for graduated seniors to enhance their academic skills, gain valuable experience, and prepare for the challenges of college life.

The Upward Bound Program provides academic support and college preparation services to eligible high school students. To apply for the program, access the online application form, or obtain a physical copy of the application from the Manning High School Guidance Department.
