Dr. Boulware received his B.A. in History from Presbyterian College and his M.A. and Ph.D. in History from USC Columbia.  Since 2004 he has held faculty positions at several institutions of higher education including USC Columbia, Anderson University, Newberry College, and West Virginia University.  Tyler has taught for USC Sumter since 2020, both online and in our dual enrollment programs in the Columbia and Lexington areas.

Dr. Boulware has a long list of publications including a book, Deconstructing the Cherokee Nation: Town, Region, and Nation among Eighteenth-Century Cherokees, published by University Press of Florida in 2011, a dozen or so articles and book chapters, and numerous book reviews and conference presentations.  He has also won several academic awards and grants.
