Research Administrators: Sign up for the new STRIVE training program by July 1

The Office of Research Training and Education is proud to announce the launch of STRIVE: Strategic Training in Research Innovation and Administrative Excellence, a comprehensive and tiered training program designed specifically for research administration professionals at USC. STRIVE aims to enhance skills and knowledge across the entire lifecycle of sponsored funding, fostering excellence and innovation in USC research administration.

This program will be held as a cohort model from August 2024 through May 2025. Classes will be held in person at 1430 Senate Street, Classroom 309. Cohorts will be determined based on the number of applicants.

 

Program Structure

STRIVE is a tiered training program that includes pedagogy for demonstrated competencies and proficiencies in research administration at three distinct levels:

  • STRIVE - Discovery in Research Administration: Participants will gain a foundational understanding of research administration, including federal regulations and USC’s policies and processes.
  • STRIVE – Strategic Execution in Research Administration: Cross-training will be provided to develop skills across pre-award and post-award responsibilities, ensuring well-rounded knowledge across central, college and departmental level operations.
  • STRIVE – Innovation in Research Management: Advanced training will focus on case studies to address complex research administration issues and opportunities, aiming to improve processes and collaboration among various research administration services and offices at USC.

 

Program Goals

  • Enhance Efficiency: Improve efficiencies throughout the lifecycle of sponsored awards to provide better support for USC’s research initiatives.
  • Professional Development: Aid in the retention of knowledgeable research administration professionals by offering continuous learning and growth in the profession.
  • Cross-Functional Expertise: Develop versatile research administration professionals who can handle responsibilities across different levels and functions.

 

Enrollment Information

Research administration professionals at USC are encouraged to participate in the STRIVE program to enhance their skills and contribute to the overall success of our research initiatives. Any staff or research administrator who works with funding proposals, grant management and/or sponsored funding is encouraged to apply for STRIVE.
