The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to open the nomination period for the 2021 Breakthrough research awards. Nominations for all three of our signature Breakthrough awards are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020.

Nomination guidelines, and a submission guide for the USCeRA-based nomination system, are available for each of the three Breakthrough awards at the following links:

Breakthrough Leadership in Research Awards 
Breakthrough Stars 
Breakthrough Graduate Scholars

Nominations for all three awards are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020. All award recipients will be announced early in the spring semester and honored at special recognition events later in the spring.

New Nomination Requirements for 2021 Breakthrough Graduate Scholars

• Breakthrough Graduate Scholar nominations may only be submitted by the graduate director for the nominee’s department or program. Graduate Scholar nominations submitted by anyone other than the nominee’s graduate director will not be accepted or reviewed.
• Each department or program may submit only one Graduate Scholar nomination. Departments or programs that submit more than one nomination will be asked to select only one nominee.
