Geography professor recognized for her teaching
Congratulations to Meredith DeBoom, who has been announced as one of this year's winners of the Michael J. Mungo Undergraduate Teaching Award. Only four undergraduate Mungo awards are presented each year to South Carolina professors whose work is marked by innovation and commitment to good teaching.
Earning a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Meredith worked in public policy before coming to UofSC in 2018. Her research examines the politics of natural resource extraction and development in sub-Saharan Africa, and she teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses highlighting this research. As a first-generation college graduate herself, she is especially aware of how important mentorship is at the undergraduate level.
She joins two other current geographers who have won this award: Conor Harrison and Gregory Carbone.
