Newly named Breakthrough Graduate Scholar also receives travel grants
Geography doctoral student Xiao Huang was recently named one of the university's Breakthrough
Graduate Scholars. This award, presented by USC's Office of the Vice President for
Research, recognizes exceptional graduate students who demonstrate excellence in the
classroom, and make considerable contributions to research and scholarly activities
in their field. Xiao is one of thirteen exceptional graduate students who were honored
with as Breakthorough Graduate Scholars this spring.
Xiao's accomplishments have been noticed outside the university too. He has been awarded
three travels grants — one by the United States National Committee (USNC) of the International
Cartographic Association, one by the International Cartographic Association (ICA)
itself, and one by the Japan Local Organizing Committee — to attend the the 29th International
Cartographic Conference in Tokyo, Japan, July 15-20, 2019.
