Dr. Vedat Çalışkan to study organzation and management of SC fairs

The Department of Geography is pleased to welcome visiting scholar Dr. Vedat Çalışkan (chal-LEASH-khan) from Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Mart University in Turkey. Dr. Çalışkan is a geographer who has written extensively about rural fairs and camel festivals in Anatolia, and he has begun the process of having them added to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists. He will be researching rural fairs in South Carolina for the next year. His stay at UofSC was recently covered by the Turkish media.
