The paper competition was focused on strategies for tackling issues related to urban poverty.

PhD Student Kwame Owusu-Daaku's paper "The Sea Defense Project in the Ada East District and its implications for Climate Change Policy Implementation in Ghana's Peri-Urban Areas" has been selected as a finalist in the 2016 Reducing Urban Poverty Graduate Student Paper Competition. The competition, which is sponsored by the Cities Alliance, IHC Global, USAID, Wilson Center, and the World Bank, is in its seventh year. Submitted papers should be policy-based and solutions oriented that examine existing projects and/or propose new strategies for tackling issues related to urban poverty. As a finalist, Kwame is invited to Washington, DC to present the research at a policy workshop at the Wilson Center. The work will also be published by the Wilson Center. The paper is part of Kwame's dissertation research and was written in conjunction with Stephen Diko from the University of Cincinnati.
