Insurance Matters

Your health and safety are our primary concern. As a study abroad participant, you will be automatically enrolled in a specialized emergency medical insurance coverage plan for the duration of your time abroad.  

Insurance Coverage Details

Insurance coverage is provided by Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI), an organization dedicated to providing insurance specifically for students and faculty traveling abroad. This plan is not intended to take the place of your primary health insurance coverage, but it supplemental to support you during overseas travel. Purchasing this insurance is required when traveling abroad for university-related purposes. 

Students will be automatically billed for this insurance. Faculty and staff may pay individually or through their department. The charges for this insurance correspond to the duration of travel:

If you believe you have insurance coverage that will meet the minimum requirements of the USC policy, you may submit a formal waiver request by November 1 for spring study abroad, by February 1 for spring break study abroad, and by April 1 for summer, fall and academic year study abroad. Completion of the waiver process does not guarantee that a waiver will be granted.
