Visa Information and Tips

Just like students coming to the United States, most of our host countries require a visa for students studying in their country for an extended period time. This is a document that is typically affixed to your passport that signifies your approval to be in the host country for the length of your program. This document is typically required for all semester or academic year length programs. Summer programs may vary in request based on length and potential internship or research opportunities. Please search for your country of destination to see visa requirements and online resources.

Please keep in mind that the host country may change their requirements at any time. Please defer to the host country’s Consulate or Embassy’s materials, if different than the information below.

The Education Abroad Office is not able to process visas for any of our students going abroad. If working with a Global Partner Program, please contact their visa services to find out if they are able to process your visa on your behalf.

Keep in mind, your visa may require a(n):

  • In-person appointment
  • FBI Background Check
  • Test results from contagious diseases such as TB or HIV
  • Biometric scans
  • Health Insurance
  • Proof of Income/Bank Statement of Financial Support

To be issued a visa from any country, you will need a valid passport that does not expire for at least 3-4 months after your departure. Please apply for your passport as soon as possible, if you do not already have one. If you do not receive your passport in a timely manner, it may prevent your visa from processing in time for your departure.
