Re-adjusting to Home
You may be experiencing a variety of emotions, including excitement and enthusiasm, as well as nostalgia, anxiety, or even boredom. In the same way that you went through an adjustment period when you first arrived in your host country, you may also go through an adjustment period as you transition back to life at home. This is normal in the process of returning home from study abroad. Staying connected to your experience by involving yourself in international activities is a great way to work through the readjustment phase. Please remember that you can always reach out to the Counseling Center if you need to talk more about the adjustment to life at home.

NFSP - Visit the National Fellowships and Scholar Programs for additional funding and opportunities in the U.S. and abroad (Fulbright, etc.)
OUR - Visit the Office of Undergraduate Research for help developing your next project and securing funding (Magellan, etc.)
UofSC Graduate School - Consider furthering your education with a master's degree or Ph.D.
Career Center - Find out what professional opportunities are available to you.
Become a Peer Advisor - Peer Advisors are paid undergraduate staff who work in the Education Abroad Office
12-15 hours per week for a full academic year. This is a great way to beat the reverse
culture shock blues and connect your time abroad to your experience here at UofSC
while gaining professional skills and assisting other students in the application
process. It is also a great way to fulfill some of the requirements for Graduating
with Leadership Distinction in Global Learning!
Requirements:
- Have studied abroad for at least 3 weeks
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work well with a diverse range of students
- A friendly and professional demeanor
- Ability to function as part of a team
Duties:
- Present to classrooms across campus
- Conduct information sessions
- Assist with marketing initiatives specific to UofSC education abroad programs
- Advise prospective study abroad students
- Other duties as assigned
