The Substance Abuse Prevention and Education office was awarded a $528,000 grant from the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services to support collegiate recovery and substance misuse services.

The goal of UofSC’s project it to advance the vision of Gamecock Recovery and build a campus culture that embraces collegiate recovery.

The office will hire additional staff, develop a peer education program, enhance early intervention programs and services for students in recovery and offer more events to reduce stigma. The office also plans to expand professional development for higher education staff to help them understand the connections between substance misuse and academic success.
