This exchange is only available to students who have declared HRSM or Tourism and Hospitality Managment as their majors! Students looking to study abroad in France and not apart of either major are encouraged to meet with an education abroad advisor to discuss their options. 

 

USC's exchange program in Angers is designed to help American students gain firsthand knowledge of French life and culture. Situated in the Loire Valley of France, Angers is a quaint town ideal for students who are looking to study in a picturesque location. The city is home to medieval architechture, art museums, and theaters and has been ranked as the best place to live in France. The Anjou region itself is home to almost 1,200 castles and is surrounded by the Loire river, offering the unique opportunity to travel through the region on foot, via boat, or by public transport. Students will find that Angers is 1 hour and 45 minutes away from Paris, making local, regional, and international travel easily accessible. Albeit a small town, students can get around easily not knowing French and have the option to take a French language course if they please.

The University of Angers hosts 25,000 students annually, fostering an environmet focused on the integration and success of all of their students. Students will be taking HRSM/Tourism and Hospitality related courses in English. Students who have taken at least three 300+ level French language courses and are studying HRSM or Tourism and Hospitality as their major are welcome to take courses taught in French, however, it is not required. Aside from their major focused courses, students can take courses to learn French.

Requirements: HRSM or Tourism and Hospitaly major,  3.0 GPA

Students who are not HRSM or Tourism and Hospitality majors looking to study in France are encouraged to meet with an education abroad advisor to discuss their options. 

Students on exchange pay in-state tuition directly to USC and do not pay tuition to  University of Angers. All housing, food, and personal expenses are paid by the student in Angers. Due to the city size, many students find that Angers is quite affordable, however, this can depend on student lifestyle and the current exchange rate. To get an idea of ​​life on site, you will find on the numbeo website indications on the cost of living in France compared to other countries in the world.

Students typically enroll in 24-30 ECTS within the faculty of Tourism, Hospitality, and Culture. All courses will be taught in English, unless otherwise specified. Students do have the option to enroll in French language courses.

Students should plan be flexible about course choices as their top choices may fill up quickly, and are encouraged to choose alternate classes in case their first choices are not available. Angers offers cultural excursions within the region throughout the term. On top of this, students can become involved in the sports programs at Angers or visit the plentiful shops, castles, and scenery offered in the region. On top of these options, students can also opt to be apart of the Buddy System at Angers, which will pair incoming students with a local student to help them gain a connection before and during their program. Students who participate in the buddy system are expected to actively participate. 

Per university policy, all USC students will be charged for  emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance of  for their time abroad. Students will be enrolled in this insurance by the education abroad office prior to their departure. Contact the Education Abroad Office for more details. 

University of Angers does not offer on-campus housing, but does provide resources to students to help them arrange accommodation. Angers does offer a "Boîte à partage" (sharing box) for students to pick up leftover essentials such as kitchen supplies. Students must note that these supplies are first come, first served. 

The spring semester follows a calendar model that is not similar to USC. The spring term typically begins in mid-March and runs until the end of June.Students can only study at University of Angers for the spring semester. 

The University of Angers offers online and in person events to help student adjust to their new home. 

Students will need a visa to study in France as they will be in Angers for over 90 days.  are required to register with Campus France and go in person to a VFS office to obtain a French visa.
