In September of 2022, Mike joined the staff of the South Carolina Department of Administration as the Director of Statewide Leadership Development.  His move coincides with the reestablishment of the Executive Institute, the managerial training program for South Carolina’s top state government executives. 

In May of 2023 through June of 2024, Mike was appointed to serve as acting  director of the Department of Administration’s Executive Budget Office upon Governor Henry McMaster’s appointment of Brian Gaines as Comptroller General.

Prior to joining the Department of Administration, Mike served as the South Carolina Senate Finance Committee’s budget director for over two decades. 

In addition, Mike’s list of experience includes the Budget and Control Board’s Division of Regional Development, the State Budget Office and the Board of Economic Advisors.

Mike received his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in economics and political science from Clemson University and his master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  In addition, Mike participated in the Fund for American Studies program at Georgetown University.

Mike previously served as a member of the Board of Visitors for the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and the Clemson University Board of Visitors.

He and his wife Laurah are the parents of an adult son and daughter and the proud grandparents of two grandsons.
