Biography:
Jen is a PhD candidate in the USC English Department, with research interests mainly focused on health-related rhetoric and medical humanities, spanning fiction and nonfiction genres. They have contributed to critical collections including Open at the Close: Literary Essays on Harry Potter (2022) and The Edinburgh Companion to Science Fiction and the Medical Humanities (forthcoming). Recently, they have shared papers including: (1) “Developing ExPETations: How Human-Pet Interactions Influence Placebo Responses in Veterinary Medicine” at the 2023 Carolina Rhetoric Conference; (2) “‘The Exciting Cause of Which Is Unknown’: The Benefits and Limitations of Using Asylum Intake Records to Recover Patient Experiences” at the 2023 College English Association Conference, and (3) “Placebo Effect and Hysteria” in the Research Network Forum at the 2022 Rhetoric Society of America Conference. In their free time, they enjoy baking, hiking, and playing with their fur babies.
