Jessica McCartha in the Advisor Spotlight

Student Services Coordinator recognized for her knowledge, initiative, and care with undergraduate students

The University Advising Center features Jessica McCartha in its Academic Advisor Spotlight for March 2022. Jessica has transformed the position of Student Services Coordinator since coming to the English department in 2019. She digitized our advising records and set up systems for online advising, all the while taking large numbers of students under her wing for guidance. Students rave about her advising acumen. They praise her deep knowledge of the major and of college and university requirements; they speak glowingly of her care for each student’s success and progress to the degree. As double-major Sophie Brown puts it: “[Ms. McCartha] is incredibly knowledgeable about the specific details of the English major programs and is able to helpfully walk me through the intricacies of the courses and answer any specific questions I may have about the program. [She has] never taken more than 15 minutes to get back to us on any of our crazy questions!” English major Olivia Gore writes: “I … emailed her about a week ago because I was struggling in a class, and she gave me really good advice and took all my stress away…. She has truly impacted my college experience and of all my friends, I don’t know anyone else who gets as excited as I do over advisement meetings.”
