Professor Minett discusses the evolution of the superhero Hawkeye
Professor Mark Minett describes how he uses the Gary Lee Watson Comic Books Collection in his course on Superheroes Across Media. Housed in the UofSC library’s special collections, the comics help his students explore the histories of superhero characters in the Marvel universe—especially the underappreciated Hawkeye. These characters thrive by being repeated with a difference within and across media, Minett says. In this sense, they’re defined by their tendency to change over time, sometimes even transforming from super-villains to superheroes, as in the case of Marvel’s Hawkeye.
