Rescheduled NIH Resubmission Workshop set for Friday, October 25

The NIH Resubmission Workshop, which was canceled in September due to inclement weather, has been rescheduled for Friday, October 25, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. This session targets USC faculty members who are considering resubmission understand the strategy, rules and processes involved in revising and resubmitting an NIH proposal. Registration is now open for the session, which will be held at 1430 Senate Street, in training room 305.

 

University Libraries hosts Open Access Week, October 21-27, 2024

You’re invited to join the libraries in celebrating Open Access Week October 21-27 by attending virtual workshops and events that can help you take advantage of OA opportunities and resources. Click here for an event schedule and registration.

In recent years, USC faculty have saved more than $1 million in article processing charges by taking advantage of Open Access publishing agreements established by University Libraries. The theme of this year’s annual OA Week is "Community over Commercialization" with a focus on the prioritizing approaches to open scholarship that are best suited to the public and academic community.

 

Sign up for Introduction to ORCID virtual workshop coming up on Thursday, October 24

On Thursday, October 24, from 11:00 a.m. to noon, University Libraries will host a virtual workshop on ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID). ORCID is a unique digital identifier associated with a researcher to aid in research output discovery, eliminate name ambiguity and encourage proper citations. A number of funding agencies, including NIH and NSF, use ORCID in the proposal submission process. In this online session from University Libraries, learn about the benefits of ORCID, find out how to get one for yourself, and learn tips and shortcuts for populating your record. Register for this virtual event.

The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to share our monthly report listing new grant awards USC faculty researchers across the university system received between September 1 and 30. Please note that some awards received toward the end of that period might have missed the reporting cut-off. In such cases, the award will be listed in the next monthly report. Research funding available for USC graduate students: SPARC Graduate Research Grant applications due November 7, 2024

The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to announce and invite proposals for the SPARC graduate research grant program. SPARC grant applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7. Complete information about the application process, including all SPARC application materials, is available on the SPARC program page

USC Unveils Roadmap for AI Application in Research and Scholarship

The University of South Carolina has released a comprehensive AI Roadmap aimed at transforming the institution into a leader in AI research and application. The plan includes initiatives to enhance faculty grant-writing through AI-powered tools, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and improve productivity. Key goals include securing federal grants, creating centralized research databases and leveraging AI to address critical challenges facing the Palmetto State. This strategic effort is set to drive innovation and technological advancement, positioning USC at the forefront of AI research excellence. Check out the USC AI Roadmap.

 

Excel Funding for Faculty: Application Deadline Extended

Due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene, the deadline for 2025 Excel applications has been extended to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. Click here to view the updated application guidelines and program overview.

Excel grants support faculty scholarship and creative output in the liberal arts, humanities and social sciences. Funds can be used in a variety of ways depending on the project. Coverage for travel, graduate student salary, project supplies, and publication costs are among the allowed uses for this funding package.
