Burnele Venable Powell

 

Born in 1947, Powell was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University Law School from 1977–1979, also an  Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law from 1979–1984; Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law from 1984–1988; Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law from 1988–1995; then Associate Dean for Academic Affair at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law from 1990–1993; later moving up to Dean and Professor of Law at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law from 1995–2003; lastly, taking the position of Dean at the University of South Carolina School of Law from 2004–2006; Miles and Ann Loadholt Professor of Law, 2004.

Powell earned his Bachelor’s at the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1970, next attending the University of Wisconsin School of Law, J.D. in 1973 and finished up his law degree at Harvard University Law School, LL.M. in 1979.
