Graduates and ONE guest are admitted free of charge. Please visit this link to register you and your free guest.
Additional guest tickets are $35 (children are admitted for free) and may be purchased in advance online (processing fee applies). Please visit this link to purchase your additional tickets. No tickets may be purchased at the door.
Commencement (Friday, May 10)
The School of Law Commencement will take place on Friday, May 10th on the University of South Carolina’s Historic Horseshoe. The entrance to the Horseshoe is located on Sumter Street between Greene and Pendleton Streets. Graduates should bring their caps, tassels, gowns and hoods and plan on arriving in the Karen J. Williams Courtroom no later than 7:30 AM. Commencement begins promptly at 9:00 AM and lasts about one hour and 45 minutes. There is unlimited seating on the Horseshoe and tickets are not required to attend.
Parking and Disability Accommodations
The Pendleton Street garage (on Pendleton between Bull and Pickens Streets) will be available for guests attending Commencement exercises. Guests may park at the metered spaces in the Pendleton Street garage at no charge. Other parking spaces there are by permit only and vehicles parked there are subject to ticketing and possibly towed. Limited metered parking is available on the streets surrounding the Horseshoe and it is patrolled by the City of Columbia. There is also handicapped parking around the Horseshoe for guests who have placards or license plates.
The closest restrooms available are located in the Russell House which is located on Greene Street, parallel to the Horseshoe. Law school staff will be on hand to direct guests in need of assistance to an accessible restroom close to the seating area.
In the event of inclement weather, the USC Board of Trustees will notify local media outlets by 4 PM on Thursday, May 9th, if the decision is made to relocate from the Horseshoe. This decision will also be posted to the School of Law website. The Koger Center for the Arts, located at the intersection of Assembly and Greene Streets, will serve as the rain location for Commencement.
Due to limited seating at the Koger Center, School of Law graduates can claim up to 10 guest tickets for admission to the Koger Center.
As there is no assigned seating at the Koger Center, seating is on a first come, first served basis. Doors will open around 8:00 AM.
Law graduates are to report to the large rehearsal hall on the main level of the Koger Center for the Arts (corner of Assembly and Greene Streets) at 7:45 AM in full regalia IF graduation is moved by the USC Board of Trustees. The class photo will be taken immediately following the hooding on the exterior steps of the Koger Center, Greene Street side.
Career Services is required by the American Bar Association to collect data from every graduate for annual reporting. Please help them start that process by completing this quick survey. This is not only a “do you have a job” survey, so they would appreciate any information and assistance you can give them!
